We have two rooms in a new house we are going to paint a deep red (Quite Red from Valspar - Lowe's), and I am wondering about primer. One room is a kind of peach color, the other is a light baby blue. Do we need primer for both rooms, and if yes, what tint or color? Your help is much appreciated!!Primer for interior red latex paint?
Use a gray primer. Use gray primer for any room you will be painting red.Primer for interior red latex paint?
I tried this once, and the results were very poor.... I needed more and more coats of red paint over the grey primer, than when I tinted my primer red...
The grey primer is what the paint store recommended, but I remodel for a living and WILL NEVER use grey primer under red paint again. Report Abuse

I agree with the answerer above, I painted a ceiling red and then distressed it to look like leather. It took 5 coats of the red paint and the reason I went with the distressed leather look is because I was unhappy with the coverage. Primer tinted red would have avoided the problems.
YES you need primer. Tint your primer RED. The same red you are going to paint your room. ( Quite Red) The paint store.... Lowes... you mentioned.... will tint your primer too.
This is very impt to tint the primer the same color red. It may still take several coats of your paint. Red is the most difficult color to get even with out roller marks.
