Please discuss the use of oil based paint over latex.?

In error, we used oil based paint on porch rails over latex. Please discuss the problems. Our plan at present is to thin what is left of the oil paint and finish the job and hope for the best. Next painting required will be the time to trade those treated wood rails for vinyl, says Me!Please discuss the use of oil based paint over latex.?
Oil over latex should be fine, it's putting latex over oil that's the problem. Oil needs to 'breathe' and the latex stops that. Please discuss the use of oil based paint over latex.?
Do not thin the oil based paint. It would have been better to prime the rails first but since you didn't then just buy a little more oil paint. There are no problems with using oil as it will last much longer then latex. The only problem might be trying to find a place that sells it.

yes, depending on how many coats youre going to put on,it will start to peel off over a very short period of time if you dont use atleast 3 coats, and even then the top layer may still peel off.Does it matter if i mix alkyd and latex paint together to get a uniform color? They won't mix. Latex has a water base and alkyd has an oil base. If you take a look at the label under 'clean-up' you'll see that one cleans up with soap and water but the other needs paint thinner.Does it matter if i mix alkyd and latex paint together to get a uniform color? Oil and water based paint(latex) don't mix. You paint job is not going to last and will all peel off within a few months.

It seems that LaTeX is released by date and not version (though I suppose you could think of it like that). I found the date that my version of LaTeX was built at the end of the manpage:

    $ man latex

... usual man page stuff ...

And here is another clue, when I run latex I get this:

    This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.4.5)

    (./foo.tex

So then I looked over here:

You could typeset a document with the code /latexe and if it shows you the LaTeX2e logo, you've basically got an up to date version.

I have a textured roller to roll out the ceiling, but need to know how much paint to use in a 5 gal bucket of mud.I want to mix ceiling mud and latex paint to textured ceiling, how much paint to 5 gal of mud?
    First of all,,,';DON';T';!!!

The two substances aren't meant to be mixed. The MUD is designed,,,as is,,, to dry as rapidly as is possible, and at a consistency to keep it in place as it dries. Adding Latex paint will only thin it, and by the time you were able to mix it all well enough, you have ';soup'

The texturing should be professionally done, and never anything other than a ';knock Down'; effect. Then paint over, after.

Smooth is truly the best way to go however.

Rev. StevenI want to mix ceiling mud and latex paint to textured ceiling, how much paint to 5 gal of mud?
You can add Drywall mud Powder to the paint, and make it thick for Texture- you can also use Drywall Primer, it is thick already- before it drys, use a Stomp Brush or Crows foot brush. My 2000 sf home is done exactly like that. Report Abuse

I strongly advise you not to do it. Textured ceilings are hard to keep clean, and hard to repaint without damaging them. They also reduce the resale value of your home. Ask any realtor.

Can I mix one quart latex flat paint with one quart latex semi-gloss paint to get 2 quarts satin finish?

the flat and semi-gloss are the same colorCan I mix one quart latex flat paint with one quart latex semi-gloss paint to get 2 quarts satin finish?
The simple answer is no. You can mix the paint and use it, it would work just fine however it would not be a satin finish. I have done this several times to paint furniture and walls. Can I mix one quart latex flat paint with one quart latex semi-gloss paint to get 2 quarts satin finish?
Yes. They are compatible. You might not get exactly a satin finish though. Best to try it out and let it dry in an inconspicuous area first.
Sure ,, just try a small batch ,and see how you like it..
The semi gloss isn't that glossy and it depends where and what you are painting like if you want to clean the surface semi you can wet spong it and wipe. If your not goingto touch it then go for it.

Is latex paint good enough for panel walls or do i have to use enamel.?

Most likely your panel walls are coated with oil based polyurathane. Therefore, buy oil (aklyd) based paint. If you paint over oil based products with water based (latex) the paint will scrape off very easily. You will have a mess on your hands in a year.Is latex paint good enough for panel walls or do i have to use enamel.?
A high quality latex paint will work fine. I recommend Behr available at Home Depot. When it comes to paint, you get what you pay for. I also suggest a good primer if you are covering paneling. Is latex paint good enough for panel walls or do i have to use enamel.?
latex will definitely work. If you want it to look like enamel you will have to do a great job of prepping. Make sure you prime the panel. Using latex paint. Your primer is the key to the whole thing. ( I am asumming that your talking about wood panels.) Do a good uniform job of priming. One tip, if you are rolling the primer on, don't do like they do on the how-to shows. After you have got the panel covered in paint, go back to the beginning. Gently lay your roller on the wall(panel) and roll striaght down using even pressure, move over one roller width and roll straight down the panel again. This will help to minimize random marks on the panel. After you have done that with the primer, you can roll the paint on the panel again, or better yet. Spray paint them. Just make sure if you are using a sprayer, cover everything else with plastic. Again, prep work is the key to a great looking paint job. Have patience and do your prep work.
Latex paint will be fine for the final coat, but to cover paneling you'll need to prime first. Get a good quality stain blocking primer. Lightly sand the paneling and wipe it clean. Then apply the primer, then paint. Without the sanding and the primer, the paint may peel and will almost definitely discolor over time. The finish on the paneling will bleed through. The people at any paint store, Home Depot or Lowes can give you specific advice about brands they sell and the compatibility of the primers and paint.
latex is ok if you primr it however you might concider ';floating '; over the paneling with drywall mud and giving it a good sanding. a few coats, kilz primer, latex paint the walls will look like new

Can a woman be allergic to latex condoms if so what are the symptions?

    its pretty common.

symtoms ( most commonly ) is pain during sex, when the condom is used.

rash, itchiness - similar symptoms to thrush in lots of cases. Can a woman be allergic to latex condoms if so what are the symptions?
Just remember 'natural' condoms like Lamb skin do NOT protect from viruses like HIV which are small enough to pass through. There are plenty of other alternatives to latex though. Can a woman be allergic to latex condoms if so what are the symptions?
Latex allergies are pretty common, so if someone is allergic to latex, that would include latex condoms.

There are all types of symptoms that range from irritating to severe to life-threatening. Symptoms would include a delayed skin rash that is similar to poison ivy with blistering and oozing of the skin. If the person is severely allergic a reaction could be anaphylactic shock where they break out in hives and their throats close up.

Try non-latex condoms like Polyurethane or lambskin condoms which are pretty widely available.

recommend you just get rid of it and go buy some more latex paint. Latex paint is water based. I will cause you problems if you try to use it now that it is mixed with thinner.Help me please. I mixed latex paints with paint thinner. what will happen?
How much thinner did you mix with the paint? That's the first question to be answered. Thinner will do exactly that, thin the paint. If the mixture of thinner was`nt an exaggeration than just stir it very well and start painting. You might not have the color you wanted but it will go on OK. The smell is from the latex and the thinner. OPEN THE WINDOWS!!!!!!!!! To be on the safe side do a medium size area of the wall and wait. Should be OK. But to be on the safe side experiment.
I agree with breezybur - discard the paint and start over. Latex paints normally do not require thinning. They appear to be thicker than one would expect, but they cover well right out of the can without adding water, unless there is a significant mitigating factor, like very cold paint.

In any case, I'd start right out of the can. If things don't go well, then add water, but sparingly!
Listen to the people who told you to discard the paint. It is ruined.

You cannot thin latex paint with paint thinner.

Unless you are spraying you shouldn't be thinning the paint anyway.
Your paint is hosed. Start over.
Paint thinner is used for oil based paints- if you check the label on latex paints you will see that you should use water to thin it.

I think that paint thinner destroys the bond that is in latex.

Over the last 10 years, how many people have allergies to latex, broken out by health care workers vs others?

Latex mattresses. What is the best one.?

Hallmark, Dunlopillo, Sealy, or Sleepmaster. It gets a bit confusing when you don't know anything about themLatex mattresses. What is the best one.?
I've sold beds in the past. I suggest you go to a few stores and ';test drive'; a variety of beds. You can't possibly know which bed is best by laying on it for 2 minutes so take your time. The day you go, make sure you are dressed comfortably in loose clothing and slip on shoes. Lay on the bed the way you sleep at home! If you are normally a side sleeper and you lay on the sample bed on your back it will not give you an accurate feel. Have the salesperson tell you about the different features of the beds and then ask them to let you have some time. If you need 20 minutes or 2 hours...again, take your time!

You should know that most mattresses companies don't sell the same name beds in every store. They offer exclusivity to their distributors by naming the same series of beds differently.. So know what features are on the individual bed you like and use that to see the same bed elsewhere. For latex beds, I like Therapedic's Pure Touch series and Simmons Natural Care . Most companies have their own websites. Crosscheck what the salesperson has told you to the manufacturer's description. You are now an informed buyer!

Best casting medium for bas relief latex mold?

I carved a bas relif wall plaque (about dinner-plate size, perhaps 1/2 inch thick, with some fine and deep details) and made a fairly heavyweight latex-and-gauze mold of it. Now I'm trying to figure out what medium to use in casting the final product to be hung on a wall. I'm still not sure if I want a stonelike or antiqued silver finish, but first I need to cast it. Does anyone know what would be hard and durable at the dimensions mentioned, as well as relatively-lightweight enough to hang on a wall, with a surface that can be given a faux-material finish? And something that can be cast at home, without specialized furnaces or anything...Best casting medium for bas relief latex mold?
Plaster of Paris will work, yet it lacks durability. Hydro Stone is the greatest. I have used this to duplicate intricate antique picture frames with wonderful results. It will accept any kind of finish including faux finishes and accepts gold and silver leafing as well. It is also affordable and as easy to use as plaster of Paris. It is best mixed using one of thoses paint mixers that fit on a drill.Best casting medium for bas relief latex mold?
Plaster of Paris. There are also several differant resins that a non-professional can mix at home. Go to a good arts and crafts store.

You aren't supposed to b/c they aren't made of the same things and will seperate out eventually. At least that's what I gathered from taking Chemistry. You probably painted right after you mixed them together so they didn't have a chance to seperate. Can anyone tell me why you can't mix oil and latex paint? I've done it and it works?
cant and shouldnot are totally different.wait a while .see why this is not a great idea. Can anyone tell me why you can't mix oil and latex paint? I've done it and it works?
you can't, becauz ';they'; say you can't.
it doesn't work and you are either mistaken on what you have done or your not paying attention .Picture a salad dressing pour in the oil and now pour in the water do the y ever stay mixed NO because oil and water do not mix 3rd grade chemistry you may paint over latex with an oil but mixing together NEVER
    Hiya Katherine..

There's no denying that if you mix a latex and oil together - and keep the solution mixed up - that it can be applied to a surface without any apparent disastrous consequences...

The key word in that sentence is ';apparent';...you've gotten a lot of answers so far, and none of 'em are exactly correct as to the reason why you can't (or shouldn't) mix the two. The truth is, most manufacturers regularly mix oils/alkyds and latexes together in primers, interior and exterior paints (often called, creatively enough, alkyd modified latex)...The reasons for alkyd modification are plenty - ease of application, longer wet-edge, better penetration, serves as a binder for chalk or dust on a surface to be painted, etc. ...

There are sundry products on the market that, when mixed with a latex (acrylic) paint, gives the latex paint the oil based characteristics of penetration and chalk-binding (probably the best known brand name is Flood Company Emulsa-Bond, which is simply stir-in alkyd modification).

And there are many commercial/industrial products on the market that are ';water-reducible alkyds'; - oil based products that clean up with and are thinned with water. The reason water reducible alkyds are popular right now has to do with the environment and v.o.c. (volatile organic compounds) regulations restricting the use and/or limits of targeted solvents.

The reason these products work, when it appears they are composed of incompatible products, is due to the process of emulsification...This process uses solvents, soaps and engineered resins to allow seemingly opposite components to mix together harmlessly without disrupting the finish products ability to ';cure'; (driveway sealer is a perfect example of an emulsified product that mixes coal tar resin with water)...

...and the products ability to ';cure'; is the reason why you don't want to mix oil and latex paints...since the products you've mixed together do not contain the proper resins or the necessary emulsifiers, the finish coat cannot ';cure'; the way it was intended. In the case of alkyd/oil base paints, the paint film cures through oxidation - latex (acrylic) encapsulation of alkyd molecules can (and usually will) disrupt this oxidation process. Latex (acrylics) cure through coalescence - and unfortunately, the presence of oils disrupt this process.

What happens now that you've mixed the two together and they appear to have dried? ...Probably nothing - although with their inability to cure properly, they may never reach the optimum level of adhesion, flexibility, washability and stain resistance that the manufacturer initially intended and designed the coating to produce - at some point in time, this amalgam may lose adhesion from the surface - or may be difficult to re-coat successfully at a later time.

So, if you're still awake after that long winded explanation, try not to do that with paint in the future. I hope this information is helpful to you - good luck on your projects.

    ric
both adhere differently to surfaces. may look okay now but eventually after the elements get to it, parts of your paint job will look like crap. one is oil based, the other is water based. you know how oil and water don't mix.
it's like adding water to your engine oil, they don't go well together. the chemical composition of the two is totally different, like it says one is made of oil and the other made with water.

What foods are people with latex allergies not supposed to eat?

other than bananas? What foods are people with latex allergies not supposed to eat?
There are foods that cross react with rubber latex. However, having a latex allergy does not mean that you are automatically allergic to these foods. You may potentially develop allergies to these foods as their proteins are similar to latex.

    These foods are

    Avocado

    Banana

    Chestnut

    Citrus fruit

    Kiwi fruit

    Grape

    Fig

    Mango

    Melon

    Papaya

    Passion fruit

    Peach

    Peanut

    Peppers

    Pineapple

    Plum

    Potato (raw)

    Tomato (raw)

It is not recommended that you remove these foods from your diet unless you develop symptoms. Otherwise you are unnecessarily depriving yourself of these foods and their nutrients. What foods are people with latex allergies not supposed to eat?
I'm allergic to latex, but no one has ever told me not to eat certain foods. I have to tell dentists and doctors about the allergy so they will use latex-free gloves, I buy latex-free products when I can, and I can't be around an open paint can or in a freshly painted room/building. WET original lubricant and Latex Condoms?

Can I put the lubricant on my man's member if he's wearing a latex condom? Will it be safe?

I know that most condoms come already lubricated.. but after the first or second time we do it, I get kindof dry..?

Let me know please, I want to use the lube, but I want it to be safe!

Thanks!WET original lubricant and Latex Condoms?
You can put lubricant on over a condom. Just check whatever lube you are using and make sure it says ';latex compatible'; somewhere on the bottle. As long as its latex compatible, it will be safe, and it will feel better. Make sure not to get any lube on until the condom is on....water or lube under a condom can cause it to slip off.WET original lubricant and Latex Condoms?
yes its ok to apply more lube , go for it
its fine just try putting the lubricant on yourself
Well I would not use a whole lot because it would come off. And make sure you use one that is OK to use with type of condom u are using such as latex or vinyl

It depends on what you are trying to remove it from.

glass - use a razor scraper

carpet - wet thourghly and rub hard with a wet rag finishing with a dry rag.

hardwood floor - same as carpet

clothing - wash at onceHow do i remove fresh latex paint?
Soap, water and elbow grease should do the job.
    Good old soap and water!!~:)
Smiles,,, Water and a soft cloth.

It pretty much depends on what surface you wish to remove paint from.

If it was just an ';oops'; and not on fabric or carpet, or your grandmothers inherited sideboy, water will work.

After the fact, and if it isn't as critical ';goof off'; works. A scrunge does as well, with dish detergent.

It sounds a bit late for this advice but maybe for next time, mask the area you don't want paint on using painters treated masking papers, drop cloths, tarps, and/or blue painting masking tape.

    Good luck.

List of foods that contain latex?

I might be highly allergic to latex but I have no idea what has latex. Can someone please give me a list of food that contain latex... If you know please also a list of objects that have latex. Last night I had a reaction and could feel pressure in my throat thankfully it didn't fully close.List of foods that contain latex?
As another poster mentioned, latex is not found in food unless someone wearing latex gloves has prepared the food.

However, people allergic to latex can also be have a reaction to bananas, avocados, kiwi fruit, mangos, pineapples, and chestnuts. This article provides a list of foods that people allergic to latex might want to avoid http://www.latexallergyresources.org/top鈥?/a>

It would be helpful to know what food caused your reaction last night, as there is also a condition called Oral Allergy Syndrome in which people with pollen/grass allergies also have cross-reactions to certain fruits and vegetables http://allergies.about.com/od/foodallerg鈥?/a> http://www.allergynursing.com/questions3鈥?/a>

A liquid antihistamine (such as Benadryl) may be helpful in treating your swelling throat if you're having a reaction. However, it's very (very!) important to be aware that allergic reactions like these have the potential to increase every time you're exposed, potentially resulting in a deadly anaphylactic reaction, which is a shutdown of your respiratory system.

You may want to keep a liquid antihistamine on hand at all times and see your physician for an Epi-Pen, which is an emergency injectable form of epinephrine to be used in the case of anaphylaxis.List of foods that contain latex?
Rubber trees, but seriously I don't really know of foods that actually contain latex. Reactions from foods because of a latex allergy is likely to be from a person wearing latex gloves while preparing food. This is why they aren't supposed to be used to prepare food.

Edit: I found a list on this link to foods that have a similar protein as latex that may cause problems.

Bananas are one of them. I have the same problem. Here is a list of foods for you to avoid. Did you eat any of those last night? Also Avocado, and Chestnut.

Can I mix a quart of semi-gloss latex paint with a crafter's acrylic paint to tint the semi-gloss?

you can only if you are mixing very small quantity as in painting a chipped paint. Latex house paint are too opaque and you will need more than just crafter's acrylic paint to tint it, instead you will need Acrycolor, or water based tinting color. Remind you not to use Tinting Color for Oil Paints...as you know water and oil do not mix.

Question about using LaTex and Lyx for math typesetting.?

Can someone tell me if I must install Latex and Lyx or is one enough, in order to use math typesetting on a text editor?Question about using LaTex and Lyx for math typesetting.?
Lyx is just a graphical text editor, but it uses LaTex. If you do not have some version of LaTex installation, the standard Windows installer for Lyx will download and install a version of LaTex called MikText. (Note: A minimal MikTex installation is much larger than the entire Lyx installation!)

WinEdit is just a text editor, which works well with LaTex, but you have to have a version of LaTex installed separately.

I followed Claus Dethlefsen's detailed directions (reference below) and I'm quite happy. Click on a *.tex file and emacs opens to edit the text.

His setup puts a ';command'; menu on emacs with the item ';latex'; to conver the text file to a graphics (DVI) file. To see the results (the DVI file), select ';View'; on that ';command'; menu.

This setup also has a ';LatexPDF'; command to make PDF files for other people to view. For myself, the DVI viewers outperform PDF viewers by at least a factor of 10. (I often use lower power machines. My laptop is over 20 years old.) However, not everyone has DVI viewers installed.Question about using LaTex and Lyx for math typesetting.?
for the text editor, you should need Lyx

LaTex is usually an engine, and an appropriate editor like WinEdit or Lyx would be needed to run over it and let you typeset

They start out the natural ugly color and turn a brownish color, as if I rubbed iodine on them. The latex gloves I wear at work change color after I've worn them for a few minutes--what's up with that?
What do you work with? Some people that work with Brass actually will sweat a green tint that stains the sheets on their beds. When you sweat any chemical you come into contact with that is considered to the body to be a toxin will be excreted this way. Your hands will sweat a lot in latex gloves and whatever is in the sweat may react with either the powder in the glove or the latex itself.

You may want to try using a neoprene glove instead. The latex gloves I wear at work change color after I've worn them for a few minutes--what's up with that?
Probably because of the beads of sweat that seeps out of your skin comes in contact with the latex gloves you are wearing.

Some latex paint got on solid oak stainedcupboards. i've tried the normal stuff - no luck. ideas appreciated!

I have been it the paint industry for 30 years . First take a terry cloth rag with water as hot as you can stand, let it sit for a moment and lightly scrub.(don't let water sit on oak for too long)

didn't work? there is a product called ';Goof Off'; that will take off dried latex paint. they also have a water base version. Be very very careful using this product it can also take off the finish on the cupboards. the water base version is not as harmful to the surface but don't let either sit for too long. hope this works for you. Some latex paint got on solid oak stainedcupboards. i've tried the normal stuff - no luck. ideas appreciated!
well as i would try de-natured alcohol, you can also try a mild stripper,goof-off,strip ease,or just very lighty scrape the area of paint, but be sure not to break the surface underneath, hence, scrape very lightlySome latex paint got on solid oak stainedcupboards. i've tried the normal stuff - no luck. ideas appreciated!
Very light hand sanding. This has worked for me with great results. You may need to touch up with a poly stain if necessary.
Use a heat gun and scrape it off.
Do not put latex over oil stain. You have to put a primer on first then you can put on the latex or put on the oil paint. Or use paint remover, then put on the stain of your choice.
I say scrape it off, then sand it with a fine sand paper.

Should you store indoor paint (latex) in a certain temprature? or can it be left in the garage with no heat?

absolutely not in the garage !!! keep it indoors - i keep mine in the basement . i left very expensive paint in my garage a few years back and it was ruined. if its in the warmer months, you're ok with the garage, but as soon as it starts getting cold, bring it inside.Should you store indoor paint (latex) in a certain temprature? or can it be left in the garage with no heat?
fluctuations in room temp may have an adverse effect on the latex after some time, best to keep it in the garage.Should you store indoor paint (latex) in a certain temprature? or can it be left in the garage with no heat?
UMmm, they usually put instructions about that on the can.
All paint needs to be stored at a regulated temp, otherwise it could freeze or dry out usually 65 to 80 is a good temp area to keep it.
    It does not matter.
it should be stored at room temperature, i believe. it also depends on what temp. your garage is at.
Because latex is a water based paint you should never let it freeze. Enamel is an oil based paint. Latex being water based is safe to store inside.
You can keep latex paint anywhere you want, as long as it doesn't freeze.
A old ref. can be used as a storage box for cans of paint, and other supplies that can freeze in a unheated garage. A person could also rewire the inside light to the thermostat to turn on and off as if it was sending ';juice'; to the compressor--not too hard to do. This keeps everything warm inside --just run a power line to it and set the thermostat--then forget about it. Keep the storage temperature above 32F(freezing)on your supplies--say around 50F.Cold freezing temperatures will destroy many supplies , including paint.

Which condom is better latex or non latex and why?

which brand is also the safest and also im looking for a thin one any recomendation?Which condom is better latex or non latex and why?
Most condoms have a reservoir tip or teat end, making it easier to accommodate the man's ejaculate. Condoms come in different sizes, from oversized to snug and they also come in a variety of surfaces intended to stimulate the user's partner. Condoms are usually supplied with a lubricant coating to facilitate penetration, while flavoured condoms are principally used for oral sex. As mentioned above, most condoms are made of latex, but polyurethane and lambskin condoms are also widely available.

    Materials

    Latex

    An unrolled latex condom

    An unrolled latex condom

Latex has outstanding elastic properties: Its tensile strength exceeds 30 MPa, and latex condoms may be stretched in excess of 800% before breaking.[76] In 1990 the ISO set standards for condom production (ISO 4074, Natural latex rubber condoms), and the EU followed suit with its CEN standard (Directive 93/42/EEC concerning medical devices). Every latex condom is tested for holes with an electrical current. If the condom passes, it is rolled and packaged. In addition, a portion of each batch of condoms is subject to water leak and air burst testing.[77]

Latex condoms used with oil-based lubricants (e.g. vaseline) are likely to break or slip off due to loss of elasticity caused by the oils.[78]

    Polyurethane

    See also: AT-10 Resin

Polyurethane condoms tend to be the same width and thickness as latex condoms, with most polyurethane condoms between 0.04 mm and 0.07 mm thick.[79] Polyurethane is also the material of many female condoms.

Polyurethane can be considered better than latex in several ways: it conducts heat better than latex, is not as sensitive to temperature and ultraviolet light (and so has less rigid storage requirements and a longer shelf life), can be used with oil-based lubricants, is less allergenic than latex, and does not have an odor.[80] Polyurethane condoms have gained FDA approval for sale in the United States as an effective method of contraception and HIV prevention, and under laboratory conditions have been shown to be just as effective as latex for these purposes.[81]

However, polyurethane condoms are less elastic than latex ones, and may be more likely to slip or break than latex,[80][82] and are more expensive.

    Lambskin

Condoms made from one of the oldest condom materials, labeled ';lambskin'; (made from lamb intestines) are still available. They have a greater ability to transmit body warmth and tactile sensation, when compared to synthetic condoms, and are less allergenic than latex. However, there is an increased risk of transmitting STDs compared to latex because of pores in the material, which are thought to be large enough to allow infectious agents to pass through, albeit blocking the passage of sperm.[83] Lambskin condoms are also significantly more expensive than other types.

    Spermicidal

Some latex condoms are lubricated at the manufacturer with a small amount of a nonoxynol-9, a spermicidal chemical. According to Consumer Reports, spermicidally lubricated condoms have no additional benefit in preventing pregnancy, have a shorter shelf life, and may cause urinary-tract infections in women.[84] In contrast, application of separately packaged spermicide is believed to increase the contraceptive efficacy of condoms.[85]

Nonoxynol-9 was once believed to offer additional protection against STDs (including HIV) but recent studies have shown that, with frequent use, nonoxynol-9 may increase the risk of HIV transmission.[86] The World Health Organization says that spermicidally lubricated condoms should no longer be promoted. However, they recommend using a nonoxynol-9 lubricated condom over no condom at all.[87] As of 2005, nine condom manufacturers have stopped manufacturing condoms with nonoxynol-9, Planned Parenthood has discontinued the distribution of condoms so lubricated,[88] and the Food and Drug Administration has proposed a warning regarding this issue.[89]

hope it is informational enough for you.....have fun and good luck....Which condom is better latex or non latex and why?
trojan is the safest. however, the thinner the condom and the less lubricated, the more real it feels.
You already have a technically perfect answer. It gave good knowledge even to me. Thanks for your question
Just listen to what vhongold has to say. He says it all.

  • Tips on how to stop smoking? But I am allergic to latex and adhesives.?

I can not use a patch. And I can not chew most regular gums due to latex properties. I can handle Wrigleys gum. So the gums for stopping smoking is not for me either.

I tried cold turkey and I was not strong enough to handle that.Tips on how to stop smoking? But I am allergic to latex and adhesives.?
Well, you could always try aversion therapy. It's a particularly nasty way to quit, but is usually permanent.

Buy a carton of cigarettes. Sit yourself at a small table with an ashtray, a lighter, and a metal bucket. Place a small fan across the table from you, blowing directly on to you, with the fan set on low.

Light up as many cigarettes as you can get into your mouth at once, and still be able to draw the smoke into your lungs. (Usually three to five.) Smoke them almost down to the filter. (All of them at once, not one at a time.) Put those out, then replace them with three more cigarettes. Light them up. Smoke them as before, drawing the smoke into your lungs. Put the butts into the metal bucket. Keep on going until you start throwing up. Every person is different. You may be at this point after one packet of cigarettes. Most people get through three packets. NEVER SMOKE THEM ONE AT A TIME. NEVER TAKE A BREATHER. You are trying to make yourself sick of cigarettes, so you have to smoke them at a level that makes you feel uncomfortable. DO NOT QUIT UNTIL YOU ARE PUKING YOUR GUTS OUT! To make sure you have gone far enough, light up three more cigarettes and start drawing the smoke into your lungs. If you do not immediately begin throwing up, then you have not gone far enough.

This is best done in the company of a strong willed friend that will MAKE you keep smoking those cigarettes until that stage is reached. Remember, you are doing this so that you will not ever want to light up again. So making yourself absolutely sick over them is an essential part of the process, if you are to be successful.

The person who told me about this method, said it worked even two years after the fact. Every time he smelled cigarette smoke, he would experience a rolling spasm of nausea.

The fan is intended to keep the smoke from the cigarettes in your face, with no relief.Tips on how to stop smoking? But I am allergic to latex and adhesives.?

I was wondering if silicon had a latex content?Does silicon have a latex content in it?
Latex refers generically to a stable dispersion (emulsion) of polymer microparticles in an aqueous medium. Latexes may be natural or synthetic. Latex as found in nature is the milky sap of many plants that coagulates on exposure to air. It is a complex emulsion in which proteins, alkaloids, starches, sugars, oils, tannins, resins and gums are found. In most plants, latex is white, but some have yellow, orange, or scarlet latex.

Is it normal to be turned on by latex bondage?

    That depends on what you think is normal... I always say: ';I am normal, everyone else is weird.';

I find it very erotic to see someone tied up in latex. I myself, like to be tied up in latex.

It is a very sensual feeling being first encased in a full-body latex catsuit, hood, maybe a ball gag or gasmask. Then tied spread-eagle, hogtied, bent over, upside down, or even underwater with scuba gear. Add a little breath play, a good spanking, a vibrator, and some electro stimulation and it's off to la-la land for me...

Whatever your taste is, enjoy it as much as you wish. It's your choice as to what you like; not someone else... unless your into that, too... *wink*

To those of you who think latex and bondage (and every other fetish) is gay, insane, sick, or whatever... Don't slam it until you've tried it yourself.

~JessieIs it normal to be turned on by latex bondage?
    Woo Hoo Jessie! LOL!

About the question... if you like the look, feel, taste and smell of latex, then it sounds like you've found your kink.... er... or niche!

I personally think rubber looks and feels awesome, but since it smells and tastes like asphalt... I'm not a fan of dressing in it or having it over or near my face. I know... I know... I'm sure a lot of your rubberists out there are disappointed in me... but please accept that I will most likely NEVER become a rubber sex doll... as fun as it sounds. Is it normal to be turned on by latex bondage?
Whether it's normal or not is open to debate. But latex is fun, and getting tied up occasionally can add to it.
It is normal to have a fetish...and nothing wrong with enjoying it either )
I'm turned on by Jessie's answer

Who could have ever known how deadly a BALLOON really is? They are made Of LATEX

We just had a Situation that could have been Really Bad A close Family friend was Blowing Up Balloons for a Party and Her Face Swelled Up and Eyes Swelled Shut Her Hands started Itching and she had to be taken to the Emergency room Found Out SHE is ALLERGIC to Latex and The Powder for EXAM Gloves. She told them she was not using Exam Gloves she Was Blowing Up Balloons for a Party.Lucky for Her She had one in Her Pocket when they Tested It at the Lab It WAS made of the Same Powder and Latex they Use On Gloves so they Were Able to Treat her Alot Faster. Real Scarey Situation. Who could have ever known how deadly a BALLOON really is? They are made Of LATEX
you probally saved some lives with this. i would of never thought of them even being closly related.give this a awesome reveiw.Who could have ever known how deadly a BALLOON really is? They are made Of LATEX
Most balloons and gloves these days are no longer made of latex, or use the powder associated with it. I feel for your friend, and I hope she can get back to life without having to be worried about coming in contact with that stuff. I have Spina Bifida, a birth defect, and as a result, have allergies to Latex as well. From now on, I suggest your friend either not blow up balloons, or get ones that are latex free.
well, first of all there is no question here. you should post this in like a forum or something. second of all, people are allergic to a lot of stuff, like if you had kiwi and you had a severe allergic reaction, does that mean kiwi is dangerous? of course not. I personally love balloons, and would think life without them would be a lot less colorful. btw I hope your friend feels better.
Its that way for anyone that has a bad reaction to anything they are allergic to. They are stopping peanut sales in some portions of ball parks.

Latex is not bad. That person's allergic reaction to latex is bad
I'm glad to see this story has a happier ending.

I heard of a dental nurse who was wearing latex gloves every day during her work. One day she visited a dentist herself, and he touched the inside of her mouth with a latex glove during the initial examination. She died from anaphylactic shock within a very short time. I don't believe the dentist was allowed to administer epinephrine or adrenaline at the time. It was determined that she had gradually built up an allergy that she was not aware of, and it became a big issue when the latex touched her mucous membranes inside her mouth. Her throat swelled to the point she was asphyxiated.

For whatever reason, allergies are becoming more and more commonplace.

By the way, if I had a peanut allergy, there is no way I would go to a ballgame.

My daughter put latex paint in the kitchen disposal. how do i get it out?

my daughter was cleaning up after painting her bedroom and she did it in the kitchen sink. now my disposal won't turn on. I shone a flashlight down the drain and there's latex paint stuck in the sides. how do I get it out?My daughter put latex paint in the kitchen disposal. how do i get it out?
Take a wood paint stick and rotate the blades with the switch off.

The latex just dried and its freezing the blades.

You need to free them and then just use the disposal as usual and the paint will dissolve after some time because it is water based. My daughter put latex paint in the kitchen disposal. how do i get it out?
Latex paint can be cleaned with soap and hot water. There may be something else stuck in the disposal. Take a wooden broom handle and push down on the blades to try to unlock the blades, you can feel them release, remove the broom handle and restart the disposal again, there may also be a reset button on the disposal.

Is it trashy to wear a lot of latex clothes, like boots and skirts?

    Best non-latex gloves? ?

I currently use latex gloves for cleaning but I think I would feel better using non latex, however I have small hands and need tight fitting gloves. Brand suggestions please, something I can find at a drugstore. Best non-latex gloves? ?
Try Handgards Synthetic Gloves. They fit the same and are 3rd generation synthetic. Website is below!

Hope they work for you!Best non-latex gloves? ?
You can get powder or powder free Vinyl gloves from a drug store and they should fit well especially in the Small size. I naturally wear a Small in most other brands of gloves, but some gloves I can't wear Small because they're just too tight. You can try a Small in the Medline Vinyl gloves. Those would be really good. I just really think that the Small size would fit you best in the Medline products. Like I said they're too Small for me and I do in fact have Small hands for a man. So, I'm thinking that they should be just right for you sweetie!

I hope that this has helped ya in some way or another.

You can get nitrile gloves at a drug store. These are usually bright blue or purple, as opposed to the white or beige like the latex. There are many brands, with none being any better than the other.
I like the clear vinyl gloves, they probably have them at the drug store.

If not the hardware should have them or buy them online.

What type of paint should i use paint my metal front door? Latex? Oil based? etc.?

I have always used the Rust-O-Leum brand of paint for metal. I have found it in both latex and oil based. It sticks a whole lot better to a metal surface. What type of paint should i use paint my metal front door? Latex? Oil based? etc.?
personally i only use an oil based paint. most paint stores will tell you that an acrylic paint is ok on them but i find an acrylic paint does not stick to metal doors very well. they come with a baked on primer and it is very hard and smooth. a metal paint like tremclad or rustolium work well but you don't have a very big selection of colours. now a days oil based paints have too many japan driers in them and they set up too quickly so if you can find a product called penetrol it works great to keep a wet edge and it helps the paint to flow better. if you can remove the door and set it on some saw horses that works great and if you have access to a spray gun even better. it gives you a nice even finish and depending on the colour that you pick may save you from having to put multiple coats on.

  • What other chemical is present with latex?

i have no ideaWhat other chemical is present with latex?
';Latex'; can mean two things, artificial or natural latex, Natural latex comes from a type of rubber tree, and it's sometimes mixed with emulsifiers, but not any one in specific - there are many that can be used. Silica is pretty common for polymerization emusifiers for latex.

    Artifical latex is made of a lot of different chemicals - they're extremely complex and there definitely isn't just one thing added. It is actually defined as an ';emulsion.';

    YESIf a man puts on latex breasts a bra and womens underwear all the time is that a form of being ';GAY';
Well you need to know a couple of things. First being ';Gay '; IS NOT A SICKNESS AT ALL JUST A PREFERENCE.and wearing prosthetic pieces and female clothing is called cross dressing, not being gay. Yes there many ';gay'; people who are cross dressers but one does not guarantee the other. I am a heterosexual woman and I would probably be disturbed if I found my husband all dressed up like a female but what the heck. You got to love people as they are, not on your terms. You need to respect your stepson's preferences but you can respectfully make it know that you do not approve of them- this is if your step son is of age. If under age then you can basically put a stop to it- for now.
To be gay one must be sexualy attracted to people of the same sex. You will get better answers if you repost thus question in the proper place on YA.

why is this question in the personal finance category????
I think men in bras and underwear are sexy.
No I wouldn't say he was gay. I would say he was a cross dresser.
Dressing in clothes of the opposite sex does not mean the person is a homosexual. The term for this is transvestite. It is a fetish practiced by many people. It may be practiced by gay men, but not all transvestites are gay.
Not necessarily gay. Certainly a transvestite/crossdresser. A few gay men crossdress, but many hetrosexual males also crossdress. There are many theorys as to why men do this. You and/or your stepson should try visiting http://www.transliving.co.uk/ if you need more answers and/or support.
    its crossdressing
Nope...just exploring his feminine side. Actually, if anything, he might be (mentally) trans-gender.

Here's the test. If you catch him like that with a man, I'd say he was trans. The only way I'd say he was gay (in that rig) is if you catch him like that with a woman.

Is it possible to mix latex paints together?

Can I use the (latex) paint off the shelf as a white trim paint, or do I need to have colorant added to it?

Specifically, I picked up a gallon of Olympic Flat Latex from Lowes, just thinking I could use it as a trim. After mixing it up it just looked really watery and didn't really act like paint. Did I 'F' up? Thanks. Can I use the (latex) paint off the shelf as a white trim paint, or do I need to have colorant added to it?
You don't want to use flat for trim anyway. It will pick up every fingerprint and be hard to clean. Take it back, if you barely used it, ask for an eggshell or semi-gloss, and most likely it's best to get a colour mixed. Without seeing the can we don't know whether it came fully tinted for use or is a base for tinting. Most latex is sold as a base, since there are 50 colours you could reasonably call 'white'. Exterior paint sometimes comes ready to use but interior not so much. Can I use the (latex) paint off the shelf as a white trim paint, or do I need to have colorant added to it?
I would take it back to Lowes and have them look at it. I could be a bad can of paint, or it might need more mixing which the can do on a machine.

During sex my girlfriend informs me that her vagina burns, is this because she is allergic to latex?

Your girlfriend's discomfort could be due to lack of lubrication or certain medications, including birth control pills, which can cause vaginal dryness. So I would recommend that she talks to her doctor about whether the pill could be contributing to her condition (if she is on the pill). Make sure that you both prolong foreplay until she's well lubricated and use lubrication to ease the friction during penetration.

Certain personal products, such as feminine spray or douches, could also cause the burning sensation. So, if she uses any of these products, stop for a while and see if the discomfort subsides.

It's also possible, though not very likely, that your ejaculate (if and when not using condoms) is irritating her vaginal lining. To test this theory, use a condom (polyurethane if you're allergic to latex and make sure it's not lubricated with the spermicide nonoxynol-9) consistently for a few times and see if the pain/burning stops.

If none of the above suggestions does the trick, I would recommend that she get checked out by her doctor/gynaecologist for further evaluation. There could be other conditions such as vulvodynia (a condition characterized by vaginal burning) or some form of vaginitis (any infection or inflammation of the vagina) which could also be causing the burning and discomfort she is experiencing.

Good luck :)During sex my girlfriend informs me that her vagina burns, is this because she is allergic to latex?
There are a few things that could be behind her vagina burning.

The first, and most likely, is simply that she's not lubricated enough. This can be countered by purchasing KY or any other brand of lubricant at a drug store. (I wouldn't recommend WD-40 though! :P)

The second option is that it could be an STD. If either of you have ever been with anyone else and never been tested, I would recommend she sees her gynecologist to get checked out.

The third option could be a urinary tract infection. Ask her if it hurts to pee as well. If it does, she'll likely need to see a regular doctor. If it does turn out to be a UTI, remember, the easiest way you can prevent them is by having her use the bathroom before and after sex!

The fourth option... maybe she's allergic to latex. But, as you see, it's only a possibility.During sex my girlfriend informs me that her vagina burns, is this because she is allergic to latex?
Could be latex. Different people react different ways. Also, just to be on the safe side. She should be tested for an STD. May not be. But its always better to be safe than sorry. You should be tested as well. Remember, you are having sex with everyone she has ever had sex with and vise verse. You cant be too sure if you have had sex with more than one person. You can always have an STD and not know it. She may only have an infection or a yeast infection. Either way. She should have that checked out as well. Its probably just a yeast infection. Ask her if it itches at all. And both of you go to the doctors.

    Good luck.
Yes...or she's probably not lubricated enough!

I know when it's time to ';get down';...we're all too excited and Don't take the time to get the ';foreplay'; in for the sex to be as enjoyable as possible! Try either the ';foreplay'; or a different type of condom....

I am allergic to latex and my hubby uses ';lambskin'; to avoid swelling and burning sensations on my end! (yikes)

    Good Luck!
well if she was dry then the rubbing of the condom should have done it but there is also a possibility she allergic i am and it does burn.

Try another type there's like lamb skin and ones for sensitive skin try those. She may have to go on birth control or talk to her doctor about if she could be allergic

    Good Luck
I had this problem for a while before we realized i was allergic to some lubes. Flavored made it burn, as did KY warming gel but when we went back to a basic lube there was no more burning. Are you using a fancy lube? If not maybe try changing brands to another type of plain one and see if thats better.
She could be allergic to the latex, yes. She could also have an infection. Try a different form of contraception and see if the burning stops. If not, she should see her doctor to be checked for an infection. Are you using plenty of lube?
Probably so try lamb skin condoms. It causes less irritation to people with sensitivity to latex. Of course she should see a doctor just in case that isnt the problem.
    probably
same thing happens to every girl. try some lube. Mmm lather it up!

What are the signs that you are allergic to latex condoms?

    well your vagina would itch...horrendously.

(or penis if your asking for a guy)

    it gets kind of red

and tears pour down your face. lolWhat are the signs that you are allergic to latex condoms?
Here's the symptoms and what causes it

. The cause is a protein in the latex used to make condoms. Allergies to latex condoms occur in both men and women. Symptoms include a hives-like rash and itching, dryness and, sometimes, shortness of breath, welts, and eczema. Latex allergy can also lead to life-threatening unapologetic shock. What are the signs that you are allergic to latex condoms?

When painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?

painted latex over enamel or oil paintWhen painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?
yeah. you probably painted a water-based paint over an oil-based paint. my suggestion sand down any areas that have bubbled. wash the entire wall with liquid sander (follow the instructions carefully). then prime the wall with any quality paint primer/sealer. by then you should be able to paint anything you want without any further problems.

hope this helps. without seeing the wall or knowing more specific info this is my best answer. When painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?
I've been doing this a long time and don't want to offend other answers.

First of all you didn't state the finish on the wall prior to this painting. If it had been an oil base paint under you would have seen signs immediately in the first coat.

You also don't explain the bubbling,,, and I wonder, was the paint shaken or stirred so recently before the second coat that it was still full of air bublles,,,OR your applicator...IE: Roller was an incorrect nap';? Normal, small air bubbles often appear, pop, and can be gently rolled in,

How long did you wait to apply the second coat?

If in fact these aren't strictly Bubbles, then possibly the wall was dirty? AS in film from cooking, nicotine, etc.

Finally,,,and no real dig at Lowes, but I never buy a store brand paint,,,maybe silly, but I have my preferences.

    Rev. Steven
didnt wait long enough or didnt take of old wallpaper
Prob had oil based paint on the wall. You have to prime with an oil-based primer before you put the latex coat on.

I would say stay away from latex. Not everyone is allergic to latex but continuous exposure to latex could bring on the allergy. Also if you have an auto immune disease (like type 1 diabetes, a thyroid condition, or Lupus) that could incress your resistance.

  • Question about priming latex walls that are currently red....?

    Hi,

I am priming red walls with Kilz right now. It is not completely covering the red, but mostly. The reason I'm priming is so that I don't have to double coat the new paint which I will be applying, which is pale yellow. Will I need do double prime it, or do you think one coat of primer and then the yellow will cover it?Question about priming latex walls that are currently red....?
If it's not completely covering the red, you'll need another coat of primer; otherwise you'll have faintly orange walls.Question about priming latex walls that are currently red....?
you really needed a tinted primer which most big box home improvement stores can make for you. the red will show through so you are going to have to double coat. On the other hand what quality paint did you buy? Good quality thick paint you can get by, but if you bought the cheapest paint then chances are two coats will do it. Thats why I wont ever buy cheap paint. By the time you get the job done you didnt save money. Good luck.
Well, since you've already started to prime before asking this question, you may find that you need to prime a second coat as red is hard to cover. A good trick to getting primer to cover well is to have it tinted to match the color you're planning on painting, unless the color is darker than the paint already on the wall. If you do have to prime again, consieder having your primer tinted.
You should be using gray primer, one coat should work.

If you saw a guy driving with latex gloves on, would you call the police?

Depends on if the van says Joe's Massage Have Gloves Will Travel on the side or not.If you saw a guy driving with latex gloves on, would you call the police?
    no!!! why assume the worse!

Maybe he was a doctor and forgot to take off his work clothings!

maybe he is a germ freak no germs on his hands!

mabye he wasn't driving his car and heard storys where the wheel has been!

    maybe he killed someone

but we can't go assuming he did just because he has gloves on!

maybe he was pleasuring himself and didn't want to make a mess on his skin!

maybe he was doing some sort of test to see how long he could have them on!

If you saw a guy driving with latex gloves on, would you call the police?
No, if he had some evil on his mind he would pretend not to arouse suspicion.. he would put gloves of that kind on a lot later.. just because he drives with them.... the worst it could mean it's not his car.. but I wouldn't know that.. and I am a pedestrian so I don't usually have time to study drivers and see if they wear any kind of gloves when driving...I see nothing evil behind it.. maybe this person has a fetish for latex.. some people do.. it may be a little bit strange but it's a harmless fetish which hurts nobody...
Don't know where you are from. If you are in a city, state or country where it is illegal to drive with latex gloves on, then by all means report him IF you have a vehicle plate number or something that would actually help the police. Otherwise, just mind your own business.
No, there are many reasons a person would drive with latex gloves on. 1. He could have a skin condition. 2. His hands may be open sores that he does not want to get infected. 3. The previous driver of the vehicle has some disease he does not want to catch.
no... dont need to waste the police officers time they have actual crimes to respond to...so I would say no.
No. I will try to call that guy.
No, what sort of offence is that? Driving whilst under the influence of latex?
No, but if he was sharping an ax at the stop lights... I might have to then...
I do that all the time. You want to make something of it?
No, its not against the law and he is not commiting any crime.

    Love your answer Tigerlilley

Is there anyway to get dried Latex Paint off of Polyester?

Go to Lowe's and get a product called Krud Kutter. This stuff is amazing. Always test first on a hidden part of garment. I work with Drywall, plaster and, paint for a living. I use this constantly. You can get a little spray bottle for 99 cents to try it. You will definitely go back for the big bottle later. Good LuckIs there anyway to get dried Latex Paint off of Polyester?

What can I use to get latex paint off of varnished wood trim...without ruining the varnished wood trim???

A product called '; Goof Off'; comes in smaller can like 3 in one oil size.

My wife loves it for alll sorts of stuff. What can I use to get latex paint off of varnished wood trim...without ruining the varnished wood trim???
I recently removed latex paint from stained woodwork. I had a can of paint remover-orangey looking (was a paint stripper),I soaked a rag and dabbed the stripper on the latex spot, and soaked several other spots, in 3-5 minutes returned to 1st spot, put more stripper on rag %26amp; rubbed the area back %26amp; forth %26amp; it came off easliy %26amp; didn't take the stain away, but removed the paint. I then applied semi gloss minwax %26amp; applied w/small brush and made the entire wood work look as if brand new.
There is a product in the paint section that is called Oops (real name). Its is used for removing dried latex. I am not sure how it will affect varnish though. Give it a read.
Orange based stripper. It works with out fumes and should strip the paint nicely.
Citristrip is great. I purchased it at Busy Beaver for around $16.99 for a gallon. I recently restored the wood trim around my windows and it took the paint off, yet it left the varnish in tact. It had a citrus smell to it rather than the pungent odor of the traditional paint removers. But you must understand, this was the original trim to a 75 year old house, so there may have been a lot of layers of varnish put on it. Even so, back then the varnish may have even been thicker.

I deliberately removed the varnish with an electric palm sander because the wood stain was too dark for my taste. I sanded and then re-stained it and applied Minwax satin finish.

    They came out beautiful!
first off, don't listen to anyone suggesting any form of stripper. that WILL ruin your wood. the best way to remove latex paint from trim is with a razor blade and a steady hand. start flat against the wood and move with the grain. you will slowly see the paint pull away from the wood. if you are good, you can even get the whole thing off in one piece.
